President to decide on re-opening of schools by 30th December – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The information minister, Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said that the president, HE. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo will decide on whether schools for kindergarten, primary, and junior secondary schools will be open by 30th of December.

Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah made this statement during a press briefing on Tuesday with respect to the president’s update on the COVID 19 pandemic on Sunday evening.

The president on Sunday evening addressed the nation on the measures still being taken to fight the COVID 19 pandemic.  He insisted that Ghana is doing well in the fight against the virus and asked the nation to adhere to safety protocols during the festive season.

At the press briefing on Tuesday, the information minister, schools will remain closed until the president receives the clearing order from his cabinet who advices him on health as to whether it was safe. He acknowledged the stress involved for parents but insisted that the government’s steps are in line with safety protocols to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“We know that parents are anxious – rightly so. Many of us are parents but schools have to be opened in a careful manner so that we do not have a second wave of infection”, he said.
