Ghanaian striker, Raphael Dwamena has suffered another career setback with the Black Stars player ruled out of action indefinitely.
Raphael Dwamena, who is on loan at Spanish tier 2 side Real Zaragoza, has been diagnosed with a heart condition and as a result ruled out of action indefinitely.
“The striker will undergo new tests to determine the extent of his illness. Real Zaragoza is confident of Raphael Dwamena’s fast and complete recovery,” the club said about the Ghanaian player.
This comes as a fresh blow to Dwamena, who was just beginning to find his feet in Spanish football, having found games hard to come by since his big move to Spain last year.
Prior to that, Dwamena enjoyed a God spell at Swedish club FC Zurich where he scored goals for fun.
His good form didn’t go unnoticed as it led to the Ghanaian being called up to the senior national team, the Black Stars.
He made his debut in the 2019 AFCON qualifier game against Ethiopia in Accra where he scored a brace.
His good form at club level also led to interest from the big leagues in Europe. A host of clubs were in the race to sign him and Zurich eventually agreed a deal worth £13m with then EPL newcomers Brighton and Hove Albion for the player.
The deal however broke down after Dwamena failed his medical with the English side.
Levant eventually snapped him up from Zurich in 2018 but a poor run of form saw him find game time he’d to come by. This led to his loan move to Zaragoza.
After 9 games in the Spanish segunda liga, Dwamena has scored 2 goals and has risen to be an important player for the Spanish club.
This news comes as a big blow to both the player and the team. For Dwamena, the road to recovery starts now.
