Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo is a prominent Ghanaian linguist and the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana.

She takes over from Vice-Chancellor Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu.

Education

Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo studied at Holy Child Secondary School to obtain her O’ Levels and then went on to Archbishop Porter Girls’ Secondary School to receive her A’ Levels.

Later, she went to the University of Ghana for a Bachelor’s degree in French and Linguistics.

In 2001, she earned an MPhil degree in Linguistics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway, and a Ph.D. degree in Linguistics from the same university.

In 2001, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo began her academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Ghana.

In 2007, the year she obtained her Ph.D., she was promoted to senior lecturer.

She was elected as an Executive Committee member of Fédération Internationale des Langues et Littératures Modernes.

On November 1, 2019, Prof. Appiah Amfo assumed the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for Academic and Student Affairs at the University.

Currently, she has been appointed as acting vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana by the University of Ghana Council.

On August 1, 2021, Prof. Appiah Amfo will begin serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor.
