The police on Wednesday gunned down two suspected armed robbers at the Hyundai and Renault Company at Atico Junction off the Kaneshie-Odorkor highway in Accra.

Explaining the incident in a statement, DSP Efia Tenge, Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Police Command of the Ghana Police Service said the presence of the police at the crime scene was based on intelligence and tip-off.

She said a lady worker of the company moving money to the Hyundai division of the company was attacked by the armed robbers who were on the verge of escaping had it not been for the interference of the police.

There was an exchange of gunshots between the two parties which led to the two armed robbers sustaining deep injuries but pronounced dead on arrival at the Police Hospital in Accra.

“Around 5:30 pm when the cashier came out with the daily sales of the Renault section of the company to hand over same to the Hyundai department of the company, the robbers rushed and pulled out a pistol on her and robbed her of the handbag containing the company’s sales money. The police team which was close to the scene moved in and intervened,” she said.

The Police identified one of the deceased as Bright Nyarko, a former worker of the company while the other is yet to be identified with one at large. They retrieved  a bag containing the sum of GHC3650 with an automatic pistol with 5 rounds and 99mm ammunition.
