Player Ratings: Ghana vs South Africa

The senior national team, the Ghana Black Stars put up a splendid performance to defeat their South African counterparts 2-0 at Cape Coast.

With all the talk about the new Ghana football and the #Bringbackthelove campaign, the Stars were fired up for the game and didn’t disappoint.

A goal each from Thomas Partey and debutant Kudus Mohammed was enough to ensure the Stars began their campaign with a win.

Here are how the Stars fared

Goalkeeper: Richard Ofori

Didn’t have much to do and was assured for the little he had to do. Generally, and okay performance from the number 1 6/10

Defender: Gideon Mensah

Nervy debut for the 22 year old but showed signs of promise and hope. The Black Meteors LB will appreciate the experience obtained from this game and can only improve 5/10

Defender: Andy Yiadom

Defended well and was always an option in attack when needed. The England based right back is making the spot his own after yet another inspired performance. 7/10

Defender: Kasim Nuhu Adams

Solid performance from the experienced defender who is growing and revelling in his role the leader in that back 4 7/10

Defender: Joseph Aidoo

The defender, who has been in great form at club level produced a fine display in the heart of the Stars’ defence. Understanding with Adams was good and the partnership looks promising 7.5/10

Midfielder: Iddrissu Baba

Brilliant performance from the Mallorca Defensive midfielder. Work hard in midfield as Ghana wrestled control from a promising south African midfield 8/10

Midfielder: Thomas Partey (Man of the match)

Great performance from a player who came under much scrutiny after a rather underwhelming AFCON. Imposed himself on the game and dictated play from midfield. Also took his goal very well. Long may this continue 9/10

Midfielder: Alfred Duncan

Anonymous display from the Sassuolo midfielder who was playing in an unfamiliar role on the right side of midfield 5/10

Midfielder :Andre Ayew

Not the best of days for the captain of the side who struggled to make any meaningful impact. 6/10

Striker: Jordan Ayew

The younger of the Ayew brothers worked hard tirelessly and was always a threat to the south African defence. He was very unlucky to not get a goal but however was guilty of holding on to the ball a bit too long. 6.5/10

Striker:Emmanuel Boateng

On his return to the team, Boateng looked hungry and never stopped searching for his goal. However, it wasn’t to be for him. 5/10

Substitutes

Kudus Mohammed

The young midfielder, who has been in solid form at Club level further enhanced his reputation with a brilliant performance. Took his goal well and was class for the 30 minutes he was on the pitch 8/10
