The Cloquet Police Department have identified Patrick Jeffrey Roers and Shellby Marie Trettel as the victims in the shooting at the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet, Minnesota, on Jan. 8.
Patrick Jeffrey Roers was found inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the hotel.
Patrick Jeffrey Roers was 35 years old and from Deer River, MN.
Other victim Shellby Marie Trettel
The hotel clerk who was killed was Shellby Marie Trettel, 22, of Cloquet, MN.
She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she later died.
Identity of the shooter
Police say the shooter has been identified as Nicholas Elliot Lenius, 32, of Ramsey, MN.
He was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Super 8 hotel.
What we know about the incident
Police in Cloquet, Minnesota said they received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. from an employee at the hotel after they found a co-worker who looked like she’d been attacked.
When police arrived they found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A shelter-in-place order was issued and people in the surrounding area were advised to avoid the scene. The order was lifted around 8:30 p.m. after police determined there was no risk to the public.
Police officers began investigating and found a 35-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound in a car in the hotel parking lot.
They later also found a 32-year-old man dead outside the hotel property from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a firearm next to him.
“On behalf of the Cloquet Police Department, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends affected by the tragic incident. We share in the community’s sorrow and offer our support to all those affected by this profound loss,” a press release says.
Police continue to investigate the shooting, with the release adding they’re, “aiming to bring clarity and understanding to the circumstances surrounding it as quickly as possible.”
