Following a bank robbery in the Clarendon neighborhood, the Arlington County Police have identified Oscar Gonzalez Allarenja as the suspect.
Oscar Gonzalez Allarenja, aged 30 and from Durham, NC, has been charged with Bank Robbery and Abduction. He is currently being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.
What happened
At around 3:09 p.m. on April 11, the police were notified of an armed robbery that took place at the 3100 block of Washington Boulevard.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect entered the bank and forcefully took an employee, claiming to have a firearm, before demanding cash and heading behind the counter.
Officers who arrived at the scene established a perimeter and worked to bring the incident to a safe conclusion, as the suspect had barricaded himself inside the bank with employees and patrons.
During the course of the incident, the Emergency Response Team approached the bank and issued commands to the suspect, which he followed, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Four adults and one child, who were employees and patrons, were able to safely exit the bank after the suspect was detained.
Medics evaluated everyone on the scene as a precaution, and no injuries were reported.
Although no cash was stolen during the robbery, Mr. Allarenja was apprehended and no weapon was found at the scene.
