MILWAUKEE, WI – A city is in shock. A family is praying. And a brave officer is fighting for his life.
Officer Kendall Corder, 32, was critically injured on Thursday night, June 26, during a shooting in Milwaukee’s 2200 block of North 24th Place. His partner, a 29-year-old officer, was also hurt.
The man accused of opening fire? 22-year-old Tremaine Jones, now in police custody.
How It Happened
At around 9:30 p.m., police officers were responding to reports of gunfire near North 25th Street and West Garfield Avenue. Officer Corder and his partner approached the scene through an alley — but before they could act, they were ambushed.
Shots were fired. The officers never had a chance to fire back.
Both were rushed to Froedtert Hospital. The 29-year-old officer is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. But Officer Corder is still in critical condition and receiving emergency care.
Suspect Arrested
Police later confirmed that Tremaine Jones was arrested at 2:15 a.m. on Friday, June 27 — just hours after the shooting.
The Milwaukee Police Department said he was arrested without incident, and charges will soon be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
No further details have been released about Jones’ background or motive.
