Former Hearts Of Oak Captain, Amankwah Mireku claims the lack of quality in this hearts of Oak team makes it impossible for coach Odoom to emulate Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio.
Speaking to Oyerepa FM in a tribute to Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, Amankwah Mireku claimed the former Hearts of Oak manager will be hard to emulate because of the quality of the squad he had and coach Odoom will find it impossible to reach those heights.
Amankwah Mireku was a member of Hearts of Oak’s famous 64 battalion team and also captained the team to continental glory again in the 2004 CAF Confederations Cup.
“Yes in Football coaches are important but for me Football is all about players ,players make coaches not coaches making players so you look at the calibre of players the late Attuquayefio worked with and now the players coach Odoom is working with, it makes it impossible,” he told Oyerepa FM.
“To ask coach Odoom to emulate the late Cecil Jones Attuquayefio in winning laurels will be impossible, it will be a herculean task for me.
“Winning the league has even become a problem but we won it six times, with this crop of players its impossible. It’s not about coach Odoom but the quality of players,” he concluded.
Coach Odoom took over as Hearts Coach on MatchDay 2 of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League after the sacking of Kim Grant. He was initially named as interim coach but has subsequently been made substantive coach of the Phobians.
