The normalisation committee special competition returned on Wednesday May 15th with a it’s thrills and excitement.
The top liner of the day was the game at Accra, where home side Accra Hearts of Oak played host to Karela United. Hearts went into the game knowing that a win and favourable results elsewhere could all but ensure qualification into the next stage.
Joseph Esso squandered the first opportunity of the game inside as he miscued his shot wide. Hearts controlled majority of the first half but the threat of Karela on the counter was always a worry for the phobians.
Karela’s much talked about striker and the league’s leading goalscorer, Diawusie Taylor, was anonymous in the game and limited to only one headed effort just wide off the post. Such was the good job done by Hearts defender Mohammed Alhassan.
Karela came back stronger in the second half and had some huge openings to get the goal. However, it was Hearts of Oak who scored via a Christopher Bonney penalty after Daniel Kordie was brought down in the box.
The win take Hearts 4 points clear with qualification for the next round very much in sight. Karela still sit second but have Liberty professionals breathing down their necks, just 2 points behind but with two home games left for them against Dreams FC and Ebusia Dwarfs,Karela find themselves in a very good position to qualify for the next round.
Elsewhere in Zone B, Liberty beat Inter Allies 2-0 at Tema, WAFA lost 0-1 to Elmina Sharks at Sogakope and Dreams’ encounter with Dwarfs is still yet to be played.
In Zone B, Abdul Ganiyu’s penalty was enough to secure victory for Kotoko against Eleven Wonders. Shadow Mumuni scored a hattrick and am own goal in Ashantigold’s 4-1 against Aduana Stars while Bechem United won the Bono derby 3-1 in Berekum.
