Rap music in Ghana has seen feuds over the years. For different reasons such as mere entertainment and a claim for supremacy over who raps best, Ghanaian rappers have faced off against each other throwing shots at each other.

Award winning Ghanain rapper Edem Adablah best known as EL however believes that the rap game in Ghana does not have an ultimate king of the throne, and that everybody is good at what he does.

The rapper made this assertion in a skype interview with TV3’s New Day on Tuesday.

A couple of days ago, top Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie released a tune titled ‘Zub Zero’ in which he claimed he was the best rapper in Ghana and will hand over the title only after he dies. His assertion sparked a lyrical war with colleague rappers ASEM and Ball J, in which they both replied to jabs thrown at them.

Commenting on the view of Sarkodie’s song which he claimed not to have heard, rapper EL said nobody necessarily has to die for someone to become a rap king. He said everybody is good at what he does and the versatility of rap styles makes the game beautiful. Using himself as an example, he said he has grown out of comparing himself to any rapper because nobody is better than anybody. He stated that he does what he does because he sees himself in a different class, unlike any other person.

“I don’t place myself anywhere the thing is as I have grown and I have come to realise that, when it comes to rap nobody is better than anybody. There is no best rapper. Rap is an art form and the thing about art is you can’t do arts better than anybody else…so all the competition that goes on and stuff, I’m in a class of my own… when I see those lists, it’s sad to me because people are getting boxed up and I’m just not in that class,” he said.
