The NDC caucus of Parliament has nominated current 2nd Deputy Speaker, Alban Bagbin to be voted for as the substantive speaker for the 8th Parliament.
Their nomination come after their main opponent, the NPP also put forward, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye to be maintained as the Speaker.
The two, will be voted for based on a secret ballot by MPs as the 7th Parliament is dissolved and the 8th, sworn in tonight.
The race is expected to be a tight one as both the NDC and NPP are tied at 137 members each with one independent, going into the 8th parliament.
