Myca Clark Jr identified as victim in Ensley Park shooting, suspect arrested

Myca Clark Jr identified as victim in Ensley Park shooting

A barrage of gunfire in an Ensley neighborhood Saturday afternoon left a teen dead the city’s second homicide in five hours.

Birmingham police identified the victim as Myca Clark Jr. He was 18 and lived in McCalla.

A second person was also wounded, and a suspect is in custody.

West Precinct officers about 3:15 p.m. were dispatched after Shot Spotter registered gunfire in the 2600 block of Avenue K, which is in the area of Ensley Park.

The city’s gunfire detection system alerted on nearly two dozen rounds fired.

While police were en route, they learned a vehicle showed up at Birmingham Fire Station 16 in the 2000 block of Avenue K.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said Clark was rushed to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, while the second victim was being treated at the fire station.

Clark died a short time later at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victims and a separate group of males met up at Ensley Park for reasons not yet known to detectives.

A male suspect shot both victims, Fitzgerald said, and then fled the scene with the other males.

Detectives roped off a crime scene about a half block from the park.

The also canvassed the area and spoke with community members who provided a tip on a possible location for the group of males who fled the area.

The suspect was then taken into custody at a nearby residence, and interviewed at police headquarters. He is being held in the Birmingham City Jail on a 48-hour investigative hold.
