On January 21, 2023, a mass shooting occurred in Monterey Park, California, United States.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. apparently during a Lunar New Year celebration of the “Year of the Rabbit” downtown at 122 W. Garvey Ave., near the intersection of Garvey and Garfield avenues.
Details about the circumstances of the shooting were also not yet known, but the shooting happened at or close to a festival for Chinese New Year, and the area is home to multiple Asian businesses.
Two witnesses said they heard gunfire but initially assumed it was fireworks to mark the Lunar New Year.
How many people were shot and injured?
According to Police scanners reports of 10 people have been fatally shot, and 9 others have been injured in the Mass shooting that took place at a Monterey Park at a Chinese festival for lunar event.
Who is the suspect involved?
The suspect is still on the loose according to PD on scene.
