Mayor Paul Young’s wife, Dr. Jamila Smith-Young is a pediatric endocrinology nurse practitioner at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
She is a native Memphian with over 12 years of experience in healthcare.
She expanded her nursing career early on by obtaining Master’s degrees in Public Health and Nursing and later obtaining a Doctoral degree in Nursing Practice.
She co-authored and published a journal article titled Increase Anxiety Symptoms in Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes During the Acute Phase of COVID-19 Lockdown.
Dr. Smith-Young contributes to the careers of current and future nurse practitioners as an Assistant Professor and mentor in the College of Nursing at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center(UTHSC).
She serves as the Community Service and Outreach chair for Advanced Practice Providers at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
