In the wake of a devastating fire that consumed a residence in Lancaster’s Quartz Hill, Matthew Switalski has emerged as the listed owner of the torched property.
While the home was engulfed in flames, a woman’s lifeless body was found within.
The nature of Matthew Switalski’s involvement or potential ties to the victim remains uncertain. Neighbors disclosed to KTLA that Switalski had previous employment history with Northrop Grumman and reportedly rented out multiple rooms to fellow employees from the same company.
Law enforcement has launched a murder investigation following the grim discovery made on Wednesday morning at the residence in Quartz Hill.
Identified locally as a 27-year-old teacher at a nearby Palmdale elementary school, the victim’s tragic demise seemed to unfold during the early hours of the day.
Speaking to CBS, a man who identified himself as the victim’s uncle described her as ‘quiet’ and mentioned that the school had alerted the family upon her absence from work on the morning of the incident.
Additionally, neighbors informed the channel that the property where the distressing incident occurred was allegedly owned by the victim’s boyfriend, with whom she had been in a year-long relationship.
What we know about the incident
Emergency crews responded to a fire burning in the 41400 block of 38th Street West around 8:30 a.m.
Arriving units found smoke and fire coming from the garage and doused the blaze in about an hour.
Two charred vehicles were found inside. No other occupants were home at the time.
Video shows three vehicles inside the garage that appeared to have sustained damage in the incident.
Firefighters and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials could be seen peering into the trunk of one of the vehicles.
