Manchester United have announced the signing of England International Harry Maguire from Leicester City after beating rivals Manchester City to his signature in a record breaking transfer for a defender.
The fee for the record breaking transfer was agreed at £85m after a negotiation that has taken place throughout the summer.
The 26 year old, has seen his development take a steady rise from the youth teams of Sheffield United, to Hull City, then to Leicester, and now earning him a record transfer to Manchester United.
The England International , who has earned 20 caps for England, has been a mainstay in the English national team in the last 2 years and was part of the England team that made it to the semi finals of the world cup.
Speaking to MUTV, the 26-year old said:
“I am delighted to have signed for this great club. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past two seasons.”
“However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity,” he added.”
“From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole is building a team to win trophies.”
“I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started,” he concluded.
Speaking on his new signing, Manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer said:
“He is a great reader of the game and has a strong presence on the pitch, with the ability to remain calm under pressure – coupled with his composure on the ball and a huge presence in both boxes – I can see he will fit well into this group both on and off the pitch.“

Manchester United kick off the new season on Sunday against bitter rivals Chelsea at Old Trafford.
