Two people are dead after what police are calling a murder-suicide on the city’s northeast side.
It happened at a home on Pine Rise Court, just south of I-270.Police were first called to the scene just before 11:15 p.m. on Monday.
When police arrived, they found a man unresponsive in the backyard and a woman unresponsive inside the house. Both were pronounced dead by medics.
Police believe the woman, 41-year-old Nicole Pannell, to be the victim in this incident.
They say a preliminary investigation shows that the man, 31-year-old Kristian Hives, shot Pannell before turning the gun on himself.
“I’ll hear gunshots in the distance and not think anything about it, my dogs were going absolutely crazy and that’s when i got up and noticed everything happening,” a neighbor who’s lived on Pine Rose Court for 20 years said.
She says it’s normally a quiet community until Monday night.
“I just can’t get it out of my head,” said a neighbor. “It was very scary. I was waiting for them to tell me to go back inside.”
She says Pannell moved in two weeks ago.
“Very nice lady, kept to herself,” she said.
