A heartbreaking story has left many across the country in shock and sadness after a young father took his own life following online shaming by his children’s mother.
Lamont Wiley, who was originally from St. Louis, Missouri but living in Texarkana, Texas, was reportedly homeless at the time. Despite his living situation, he continued to care for his two children and be present in their lives.
He Just Wanted to Be There for His Kids
Sources say the children’s mother asked Lamont to take the kids for one night. Although he didn’t have a stable home, Lamont agreed after a friend offered him a place to sleep with the children.
But things took a turn for the worse. The friend left, and the children’s mother did not come back to pick up the kids as planned. Lamont and his children were left outside all night with nowhere to go.
His young son was reportedly bitten multiple times by mosquitoes. Lamont, already going through mental health struggles, felt stuck, helpless, and overwhelmed.
Public Shame That Hurt Deeply
The following day, instead of receiving support, Lamont saw hurtful posts on social media. The children’s mother allegedly made public posts insulting him and calling him a bad father.
That online embarrassment was too much for Lamont to handle.
Before taking his life, Lamont posted this final message on Facebook:
“Sorry Makaila & Karson 💔 Daddy loves y’all.”
Shortly after that post, Lamont Wiley died by suicide.
