Kyrkovalet 2021- The church election is on Sunday, 19 September.
We’ll take a look at Kyrkovalet 2021, how to vote, and what to expect when the results come in.
What is the church election and how do you vote? ( Kyrkovalet 2021 )
Each Swedish citizen who is also a member of the Church of Sweden has the right to vote on how the Church of Sweden should be governed. You will receive a voting card. On election day, 19 September, you are able to vote either in advance or on the day of the election.
You can vote early in any polling station you choose.
However, if you intend to vote on election day, you must go to the polling station you belong to.
Your voting card contains information about this. Your ID document must be brought with you.
Voting is also possible for bids. In other words, someone hands over your votes to you in a special envelope on election day in your polling station, or to your parish or pastorate if you do not have an opportunity to go to the polling station by yourself.
Documentation of the bidder’s identity is required. You must record in writing on the outer envelope that the ballot papers were placed in the envelopes in the presence of at least two witnesses. They must have also signed the envelope to confirm this.
It is a requirement that couriers and witnesses be at least 18 years old.
The color of the ballot papers
A church election is also divided into three levels just like a general election. In your ballot paper, you therefore have three different ballot papers with three different colors. They are as follows:
- Elections to the church council (local elections), use white ballot papers
- Election to the diocese (regional election), uses pink ballot papers
- Elections to the church council (national elections), use yellow ballot papers
