We now know the name of a man charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend, a young mother of two from Woodville.
The suspect in the Jasper shooting, Kristopher Tayshaun Drayton, 23, appeared Thursday morning before Jasper County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Raymond Hopson and was officially arraigned on a manslaughter charge, according to our media partner, Mike Lout with KJAS. Judge Hopson set bond at $500,000.
He’s charged in the shooting death of 19-year-old Keniyah Williams.
Police Chief Garrett Foster reveals that Williams was shot inside Drayton’s car late Tuesday night near West Gibson and Main Street.
The chief says he drove her to CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial Hospital where she died.
The 23-year-old suspect is cooperating with the investigation, according to Chief Foster.
Keniyah’s mom posted her thoughts about the death of her daughter.
“Waking up hoping this was all a dream, or furthermore, a nightmare,” said Ashley Lacey. “Never in a million years would I think that I would ever have to bury my own child. Please, please, keep me, her kids (babies), and her siblings, as well as the rest of her family, in your prayers. I’m okay for now, but Keniyah was my baby girl and I will never completely recover from this nightmare.”
Keniyah graduated last year from Woodville High School where she played basketball and ran track.
She just finished her freshman year at Angelina College and wanted to become a nurse.
In her free time, the young mother enjoyed spending time with her children and family.
