Award winning Ghanaian reggae musician, Rocky Dawuni has hinted on why he keeps dreadlocks and has said that keeping dreadlocks tells the perfect story of who he is and his heritage as an African.

The music icon was in an interview with Dj Advisor of Accra based Happy Fm on Thursday when he made this revelation. “It expresses who I am. Being proud of my heritage.”

As monitored by ghlinks.com.gh, Rocky Dawuni explained that he started growing his dreadlocks when he realized he had to tell the world he was as an African. He added that dreadlocks is of an African trace and tells the story of the beauty of the African.

In reaction to whether it was acceptable to the class of people he associates with, he said people respect him for what he does and not how he looks. “I am a United Nations ambassador. I have sat with world leaders. I have gone to most parts of the world and met amazing people. Its because they respect what I do and value who I am.”

Rocky Dawuni was in the studios of Happy Fm to talk about his highly anticipated album which drops on the 8^th of March, beats of zion and features Ghanaian heavyweights Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Wiyaala. Talking about his style of music, he said he is known for fusing different elements of indigenous Ghanaian rhythms, hi-life music and reggae in his music. He added that it makes his music unique and went a long way to win him a Grammy Award nomination.

The celebrated reggae icon also spoke about why he plays less shows in his homeland, Ghana. He said most people perceive him to be a resident outside Ghana and therefore do not call him for shows down here. He added that most shows he plays in Ghana are shows he himself organizes.
