Two people were killed Sunday, including a teenager from Columbia, and another person was injured in an early-morning shooting, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
Kashaan Damon Sims, 17, died at the scene after being shot multiple times in the upper body, Coroner Margaret Fisher said.
Alvin Davonte McDaniel Jr., a 29-year-old Winnsboro resident, was shot several times in the lower body and was taken to an area hospital where he later died, according to Fisher.
A third victim was evaluated at an area hospital for a gunshot wound but was later released, the coroner’s office said.
The shooting happened at about 3:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Center Street, according to Lexington County officials.
That’s in a part of Lexington County that’s a block from Meeting Street and not far from a bridge to downtown Columbia.
At about 7 a.m., the West Columbia Police Department asked the public to avoid the area following what it called “an isolated shooting.”
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or if anyone else was involved in the gunfire. Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported by police, who are continuing to investigate the shooting along with the coroner’s office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
