Two teenagers were killed on Saturday after they were hit by a TriMet Green Line MAX train.
The victims have been identified as Kaleb Banzer, 19, of Boring, and Brayden Fear, 19, of Hillsboro.
The incident occurred near Northeast 28th Avenue and the Banfield Freeway (I-84).
Initial reports state that a driver crashed on the Banfield Freeway (I-84 in Portland) near Northeast 28th Avenue.
It was a single-vehicle crash and police believe speed was a factor.
After the crash, Banzer and Fear got out of the car and jumped over a barrier into a restricted TriMet area to retrieve a car part.
They were both hit and killed by an oncoming MAX train.
Their families have been notified of their deaths.
The Portland Police Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team was called out to investigate. The westbound lanes of I-84 were closed at Northeast 43rd Avenue, and MAX passengers had shuttle buses between the Northeast 7th Avenue and Gateway Transit Center.
