Jonathan Christian Roman, 27, is the suspect in a shooting that occurred in Douglas County, Georgia on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.
The shooting left one person dead and two injured, including a sheriff’s deputy.
Roman is currently recovering at a hospital after being shot by deputies.
He is accused of shooting a deputy and then retreating, before returning and shooting at the deputy again.
The shooting occurred at a home in the 5900 block of North Bear Drive. Deputies were called to the scene around 9:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a person shot.
When deputies arrived, they entered the home and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and lying on the kitchen floor. The man, identified as 66-year-old Walter Jackson Sr., died at the scene.
Deputies also located a woman holding a baby who indicated that the suspect was in another room. Deputies eventually found Roman and gave him several commands to show his hands.
Roman then allegedly shot a deputy and retreated briefly, before returning and shooting at the deputy again. Deputies returned fire, striking Roman.
The deputy who was shot was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. Roman is also in stable condition.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the shooting.
