Raymond Jon Tester is an American politician and a farmer who currently serves as the Senator for the state of Montana.
He was born on 21st August, 1956 in Havre, Montana.
His parents were David Tester and Helen Marie.
He grew up in Chouteau County near Big Sandy, Montana. His grandfather had purchased a land for farming in 1912, which would later become a generational home which he would inherit.
In 1978 he graduated from University of Providence with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. He moved on to work in Big Sandy High School after graduation and later quit to venture into farming.
Tester met his sweetheart, Sharla Bitz Tester while at school. The two fell in love with other and later married in 1978. His wife, also a farmer helps him with the farming business.
Tester first had a taste of political office when he was elected as part of the Big Sandy board of education between 1983 and 1992.
His first taste as a senator was in 1998 when neighbors who was a Republican decided not to run for re-election. He served from 1999 to 2007.
During that time, he was elected as the minority leader.
He ran for the US Senate in 2007 after announcing his interest in 2005.
He won on the Democrat ticket and has served as Senator for Montana from 2007 till present.
He announced in February 2024 that he would be seeking re-election in 2024.
