“Joe Dakota didn’t die of COVID 19”- Family clarifies

The Family of the late Accra Hearts of Oak legend, Jonathan Oti Kpakpo Ankrah, popularly know as Joe Dakota have come out to publicly deny the stories linking the death of the 84-year old to the novel coronavirus.

Speaking to the media, granddaughter of the deceased, Abigail Otua said his grandfather died of Kidney failure after a long battle with Diabetes.

“My family and I are very upset about the news going around about how my grandpa passed away. The information and my grandpa passing from the Covid-19 virus is false,” Abigail Otua told Ghanasoccernet.com on Thursday night.

“My grandpa passed away from kidney failure due to diabetes. His kidneys failed him and that was the cause of his unfortunate death.”

Joe Dakota played for Accra Hearts of Oak in the 60s and later on in the 70s when he captained the club.

He is fondly known by the old Accra Hearts of Oak fans as he had memorable moments with the club alongside the late Alahaji Hearts.

He left Ghana after his playing career was over and has resided in the United States of America until he passed away.
