Johnny Ruffo was a popular Australian singer-songwriter, dancer, actor, and television presenter.
He was born on March 8, 1988, in the Perth suburb of Balcatta, to parents Jill and Pascoe Ruffo.
His parents separated when he was three years old, and he spent most of his childhood living in a small public housing unit with his mother.
From around the age of 12, Ruffo became interested in music, prompted by his love of Michael Jackson.
Johnny Ruffo relationship with mother, Jill Ruffo
Throughout his treatment, Johnny’s mum has been a rock for the actor and musician.
Jill was always incredibly supportive of her son’s ambitions as a performer.
As well accompanying Johnny to his X Factor audition back in 2011, where she gushed about how fantastic he was to host Luke Jacobz, Jill was front and centre watching his final dance during his stint on Dancing With The Stars.
“I am so excited that Mum will finally be able to see me dance live,” Johnny told The West Australian at the time.
“Hopefully, it will be a good night and I can bring the mirror ball trophy back to WA.”
In 2022, Johnny Ruffo revealed that his mother took him to a sperm bank when he began his cancer battle.
Jill Ruffo waited outside as the singer made a deposit in the hopes of one day having children before he began chemotherapy.
