The second witness for the petitioner in the on-going election petition case, Dr. Michael Kpesse Whyte has accused the EC chairperson, Madam Jean Mensah of deliberately asking him and other representatives of the NDC in the strong room to leave and consult with their flag bearer, John Drmani Mahama on their alleged election discrepancies, after which she declared the presidential results in their absence.
Dr. Kpesse Whyte took the stand today as the second witness for the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama who is seeking the apex court to re-run the 2020 general elections on the basis of election rigging in favor of president Akuffo Addo.
In his testimony in court, the lecture and politician alleged that the EC chair among other things told him and his team in the strong room that they should consult with their flag bearer when they raised concerns about discrepancies in the election results. He added that he was assured an escort rider to the residence of the flag bearer and left only to hear that the results have been declared by her. He said;
“I have no reason for lying. When we were leaving the room, I informed in the open room to the hearing of everybody that we were instructed by the Chairperson of the EC to go and consult with our flagbearer who is the petitioner on the basis of our observations and therefore, she was going to make sure that she send a rider to bring us back to the strong room because of the potential of traffic then therefore when we finish the process then the results will be announced
On the basis of this, when we were leaving the place, we left our laptops. We left in only one vehicle. I left my vehicle in the premises of the Electoral Commission. Why would we leave our laptops and our working tools in the place if we were actually not instructed to go?… Indeed, we returned to the place in about 45 minutes to 1 hour only to have the strong room completely deserted and everything packed out”.
