A 16-year-old boy has died in what is now being classified as a double homicide from a shooting Friday night in southwest suburban Summit.
The boy was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jaydin Bahena of Summit. He was taken to an area hospital after the shooting but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, according to the Summit Police Department.
A 34-year-old man was also shot in the incident and pronounced dead later at the hospital. His identity has not yet been released.
According to police, officers responded to the area of Hanover and 73rd Avenue in Summit just before 10:30 p.m. Friday for a report of shots fired and a person struck.
When officers arrived, police say, they found a 16-year-old boy, later identified as Bahena, with a possible gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered aid and called for emergency services personnel. The victim was transported to an area hospital by the Summit Fire Department and treated, police say, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Police say officers were also called to the area north of the scene for a possible additional victim. That’s where they located the 34-year-old man sitting in a vehicle with apparent gunshot injuries. He was taken to an area hospital, police say, where he was pronounced dead.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Summit police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
