What we know about the incident
The shocking series of events started early in the morning on Monday at 4:30am.
The police were called to the 405 Freeway in Culver City where they discovered the body of an eight-month-old baby lying next to her nine-year-old sister on the side of the road.
Sadly, the baby was declared dead at the scene, and the nine-year-old girl was quickly taken to the hospital.
The police later found the mother’s body 15 miles away. She had crashed her car into a tree and ended her own life.
The mother, Danielle Johnson, who was 34 years old, had left a horrifying scene at their $5,600 home.
She had killed her partner, Jaelen Allen Chaney. A neighbor discovered Chaney’s body in the family’s apartment after seeing blood seeping out from under the door.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department shared more information about how this tragic incident unfolded.
According to investigators, Chaney and Johnson were heard arguing around 3:40am on Monday.
Unfortunately, the argument turned deadly when Johnson, who was 34 years old, stabbed her partner.
The LAPD officials found the bloody knife that Johnson used to stab Chaney at their home. After the incident, Johnson fled from the apartment with her two children.
Witnesses spotted Johnson’s car on the 405 Freeway at around 4:30am. They saw her push the infant and the nine-year-old out of the moving vehicle, according to the LAPD.
The baby lost her life due to the injuries sustained from the fall, and the nine-year-old girl suffered moderate injuries.
Johnson then drove south to Redondo Beach at speeds over 100 mph when she plowed her car head-on into a tree at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Vincent Street.
