A local child is dead after being hit and killed by gunfire while sleeping.
Around 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, gunfire occurred outside of the 30 block of W. Fairview Avenue in Dayton, according to the Dayton Police Department.
While sleeping in her bed, a 12-year-old girl was reportedly struck by gunfire and died.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the girl as Isabellas Amor-Carlos.
Dayton Public Schools Superintendent Dr. David Lawrence has released information that the child was a student at Charity Adams Earley Girls Academy.
“The Dayton Public School District is saddened by the death of a 7th grade student at Charity Adams Earley Girls Academy, who has attended the school since preschool,” said Lawrence. “This student was an important member of the Charity Adams community and will be greatly missed by both staff and students.”
Although no one else reported any injuries, additional homes were also hit by gunfire. Officials reportedly located over 30 shell casings on the roadway, as well as at two residences.
In a press conference, Dayton Police Major Brian Johns said the department believes two individuals could have been involved.
At this time, no suspects have been taken into custody. Investigators are continuing to attempt to identify the individuals.
