Asamoah Gyan has finally opened up about the reports on his divorce through his lawyers. Reports state that Asamoah Gyan is seeking a divorce from his wife, Gifty Gyan whom he has 3 kids with.
Asamoah Gyan has admitted that indeed his marriage has hit the rocks and since the news came out, there have been several sources who have hinted the media on why Gyan is getting a divorce with one of them being that another woman is in the picture.
In a statement, issued by his lawyer Mr. Edwin Kusi Appiah and given exclusively to Graphic Online, a part of it reads; “Our client has noted the level of misinformation as well as the veiled and sometimes open attempt to discredit him, his family and or his friends and therefore we write for and on behalf of Mr. Asamoah Gyan on matters that have come to his attention because they have been largely publicised and talked about within the media space across the country.”
The statement indicated that Gyan is not interested in discussing his marriage in public and that the only correction he wants to make is that, he’s not divorcing his wife, but only an annulment process.
The big question is, What’s the difference between him divorcing his wife and asking for an annulment.
A definition of the term by legalzoom.com states:
There are two ways to legally end a marriage – annulment and divorce. An annulment is a legal procedure which cancels a marriage between a man and a woman. Annulling a marriage is as though it is completely erased – legally, it declares that the marriage never technically existed and was never valid.
A divorce, or legal dissolution of a marriage, is the ending of a valid marriage between a man and a woman returning both parties to single status with the ability to remarry. While each individual state has its own laws regarding grounds for marriage annulment or divorce, certain requirements apply nationwide.
An annulment case can be initiated by either the husband or the wife in the marriage. The party initiating the annulment must prove that he or she has the grounds to do so and if it can be proven, the marriage will be considered null and void by the court
Asamoah Gyan who wastes no time in dragging people to court also warned the media and the public to be careful about the things they write.
“For all those sections of the media and faceless outlets that have begun some sort of vendetta against our client and his ilk, please consider this letter as one, before action. If you feel inclined to test our clients resolve, then prepare yourself to do as much in the court of law,” the statement added.
Recall that it had earlier been revealed that , it was Asamoah Gyan’s brother, Baffour Gyan who asked for the DNA test of Gyan’s three kids.
One thing that is certain is that, whether annulment or divorce, in a way it is the same thing.
