African music has taken the world by storm, with A list African artistes leaving lasting impressions and sharing the world stages with top worldwide known artistes. Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy are a few of such artistes putting Africa on the map.
In view of this, rapper Edem has called on music stakeholders in Africa to create the African replica of ‘Billboard’ and globally recognized awards schemes.
The rapper believes this act would help the future generation of African musicians.
Africa can boast of award schemes like AFRIMMA, MAMAs and a few but it appears it isn’t doing the continent good.
In a tweet by the Ewe rapper, he noted that there is the need for the creation of the African Billboard because of the hype that comes with it. He noted that gaining validation from the West would be simple for the new crop of African musicians. He wrote;
“The way Africa music dey go… I pray we have our own billboards and awards schemes and templates, so that future generations would not look for validation from the west. #Gbevu”
