The creators of How I Met Your Mother have produced a spin-off in which the genders of the main characters are switched; the series is now How I Met Your Father.
It will premiere with two episodes on January 18, 2022 as part of a 10-episode series ordered by Hulu, an American streaming platform.
How I Met Your Father plot: What’s it about?
Like its predecessor, How I Met Your Mother, How I Met Your Father follows a similar plot device.
The story begins with Sophie sitting down with her child(ren?) and describing how she and their father met for the first time.
The series teases us with a number of potential suitors for Sophie… but it’s unlikely we’ll see him anytime soon.
The pilot episode will be directed by HIMYM director Pam Fryman, who oversaw the filming of 196 of the 208 parts of the original series.
Many fans were disappointed with the original show’s finale, but they will certainly be pleased to see that a lot of the same creative power is behind this new series.
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, creators of the original series, are returning, along with Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who will serve as showrunners.
How I Met Your Father cast: Who’s in it?
This series stars Hilary Duff as modern-day, love-lost Sophie, who sets out on a quest to find The One, “the one who really loves her.”.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie,” Duff told ( Variety).
“As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother I’m honoured and even a little nervous that [the creators of the original series] Carter Bays and Craig Thomas [who are also exec-producing] would trust me with the sequel of their baby… Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realise these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½s in there.”
The future version of the lead character is played by Kim Cattrall, of Sex And The City fame. (Let’s just say from the fancy house, Sophie’s done alright for herself!)
As for her friendship gang, that’s completed by GLOW’s Chris Lowell as Jesse, Francia Raisa as bestie Valentina, Tom Ainsley as Charlie, Tien Tran as Ellen and Suraj Sharma as Sid.
Also confirmed is Josh Peck’s appearance, although it’s unclear how long he’ll appear.
