Accra Hearts of Oak lose to Berekum Chelsea in the season opener at home at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a game where the Hearts fans trooped to the stadium and expected a refreshing win to lay a marker on the new 2019/2020 GHPL season, the phobians goofed .
The Phobians started the game on the front foot with huge zeal to the joy of the spectators.
However, hearts had little to show for all the possession in the early minutes.
Chelsea however posed a threat on the counter and asked a few questions of the hearts defence that didn’t look comfortable.
In the 33rd minute however, Chelsea got the opener through a wonderful effort from Jonah Ottuquaye, who cut in from the left wing before firing past Richmond Ayi in post for hearts. Chelsea held on till the break.
In the second half, Hearts coach Kim Grant threw on Kofi Kordzi, Michelle Sarpong and Abdul Manaf Umar in an attempt to salvage a result. But for a deflected Kordzi shot that came off the crossbar, Hearts rarely created any chance of note as they begin their season in defeat.
At Kumasi, Justice Blay scored the only goal as Kumasi Asante Kotoko secured a 1-0 victoty over Techiman Eleven Wonders .
Yahaya Mohammed grabbed the first hattrick of the season in Aduana Stars’ 4-0 win over Inter Allies at Dormaa.
