The 2018 Africa CAF Confederation Cup first leg play-off went down 3 days ago at the Agyeman Badu stadium in Ghana with Aduana Stars emerging the winners.
After a 90-minute fierce battle with a foreign team called Fosa Juniors, the champions managed to secure an astonishing victory with six clean goals. They managed to beat their Madagascan rivals 6-1 in a match that was highly anticipated.
Surprisingly everybody had predicted Fosa Juniors to win. Even most betting sites, including https://www.betway.com.gh , had offered higher betting odds for Aduana Stars than the odds for Fosa Juniors. It did not seem to anybody that the Stars could carry the day and the 6-1 outcome came as a shock for many. But then again, that is football.
How the Game Went Down
The Juniors had delivered the first goal in the fourth minute, courtesy of Jose Randrianantenaina’s. This motivated the Stars who had been waiting for their guests to take the first shot. As a result, they scored their first goal 5 minutes later. Elvis Opoku scored the goal, neutralizing the Junior’s victory. On seeing this, Yahaya Mohammed almost gave the Fire Boys a goal in the 14th minute but the ball did not go in. Instead, Fosa Juniors goalkeeper was defeated after 19 minutes later. Sam Adams had stepped up to score a goal, putting Aduana Stars in the lead immediately. Five minutes to halftime, another goal came from Sam Adams, putting the hosts two goals ahead of the visitors. This was a penalty kick though. Bright Agyei and Zakaria Mumumuni scored two more goals for the Stars in the second half, which ended with such a massive win.
Why the Fosa Juniors Had Been Overrated
Having been considered a small team in the African League football, Fosa Juniors wanted to display their potential and true colors in the CAF Confederation Cup. They needed to demonstrate how lethal and dangerous they could be when it comes to football. The Madagascan team was determined to beat their rivals and earn their much longed for respect. They had earlier eliminated a Kenyan top-tier team called AFC leopards from the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-1 outcome. The Madagascans later thwarted Mauritius’s A.S Port Louis in the first round with a 3-0 win. Considering these facts, many had predicted a massive win for the Juniors, but they witnessed an opposite outcome.
Why the Ghanaian’s Won
The Aduana Stars played on their home turf and hence had more support than their opponents had. This boosted their morale, causing them to play harder and win big. Another thing that favored them is penalty awards. While the Fosa Juniors ended the game without being awarded even a single penalty, their hosts got penalties all resulting in goals. Some critics, especially those on the Fosa side believe that the coach had a huge bias toward the Aduana Stars. Whether that is true or not, all we know is that the Aduana Stars beat the Fosa Juniors 6-1 in a match they played last Sunday at the Agyeman Badu stadium in Ghana.
