CEO of Kofas Media, Kofi Asamoah has stated that the Ghana Movie Awards failed because proper planning did not go into the organization of the awards for 2018.
Kofi Asamoah made this statement in a phone interview with Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM’s Morning Agenda today.
The Ghana Movie Awards is an awards scheme that honors actors and stakeholders in the movie industry and has been running for some 8 years now. The 2018 edition however didn’t meet the usual expectation by its patrons due to numerous reasons, many of which are centered on bad organisation.
According to attendees of the 2018 edition of the Ghana Movie Awards, the event was handled poorly with respect to timing, performances and a host of many others.
Kofi Asamoah explained that the issue of bad planning was due to the fact that the organizers lacked funds to organise the event successfully. He touched on the fact that sponsors didn’t come on board to help make the event a success and as such, the organisers used their funds to organise the 2018 edition of the awards scheme, an issue he labelled as troubling.
Touching on the odd time the event started, Kofi Asamoah admitted to Sammy Flex that the event started after 11pm and that wasn’t a good time to start a program, but explained that a whole lot had to be put in place to ensure the program ran smoothly, causing the delay.
As monitored by ghlinks.com.gh, Kofi Asamoah apologized on behalf of the organizers of the awards scheme and stated that the team would work harder to make future organisations a success and asked for continuous support for the awards scheme.
When asked what the future looks like for the Ghana Movie Awards after several years of the event organisation, Kofi Asamoah said it was sad how the award scheme was lacking support from companies and prominent individuals in the country, considering its prestigious nature. He said that the awards is by far the only prestigious award that brings attention to the Ghana movie industry due to its name alone (Ghana Movie Awards). He added that if anyone wants to support the awards because of its organisers, the person wouldn’t. “If you listen to Fred Nii Armah, you won’t support the awards. But you should consider the prestige of the awards and help make it better.” He went further to add that it was due to its prestigious nature that most notable names in the movie industry were present at the event despite the fact that it failed to meet its expectations.
He again took the opportunity to clear the airwaves as to whether the awards was telecast live on Dstv. He said the event didn’t telecast on Dstv but on Multi Choice rather. “The event didn’t telecast live on Dstv as it is being said. It’s rather on Multi Choice. Utv started the telecast but cut transmission moments after. Let me state that”.
