He co-wrote many of his band’s legendary tracks, including “Too Hot,” “Ladies Night,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Cherish,” and “Celebration.”
Kool & The Gang was formed in 1964 in Jersey City, New Jersey. In addition to George, the other founding members included Dennis Thomas (saxophone), Robert Mickens (Trumpet), Ricky West (keyboards), Charles Smith (guitarist), brothers Robert (bass) and Ronald Bell (keyboards).
Robert is now the only surviving member of the band.
