FIFA bans Former Nigeria coach, Samson Siasia for life

FIFA have issued a life ban to former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia after being found guilty of breaching the 2009 code of ethics on bribery.

Samson Siasia, who is currently without a team last coached the Nigerian Olympic team and led them into the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Investigations into Samson Siasia’s involvement in a bribery scandal scandal began in February this year, according to FIFA.

In addition to the ban, a fine on $50,000 has been imposed on the former Nigerian coach.

The world’s governing body of football, FIFA said in a statement:

“The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has found Mr Samson Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation, guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the Fifa Code of Ethics,” wrote Fifa in a statement.

“The formal ethics proceedings against Mr Siasia were initiated on 11 February 2019 and stem from an extensive investigation into matches that Mr Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes.

“This large-scale investigation was conducted by Fifa via its competent departments and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities.”

“In its decision, the adjudicatory chamber found that Mr Siasia had breached art. 11 (Bribery) of the 2009 edition of the Fifa Code of Ethics and banned him for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.”

“In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 50,000 has been imposed on Mr Siasia.”

“The decision was notified to Mr Siasia today, the date on which the ban comes into force.”

As a player , Samson Siasia won the AFCON with Nigeria in 1994 & played at the World Cup same year.

Led his country’s U20 & U23s to African success in 2005 & 2015 respectively.

Siasia is the most decorated African football coach at the Olympics with silver (2008) & bronze (2016).

He is the second Nigerian coach to be banned after Salifu Yusif recently git banned for match fixing and bribery offences.
