Eric J. Nelson, Biography
Eric J. Nelson is an American lawyer and Minnesota Criminal Defense Attorney.
He is an experienced litigator, superior negotiator, and phenomenal strategist.

He is the lawyer representing former Police Officer Derek Chauvin in a murder trial over the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.

He attended Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota from 1988 to 1992.
He graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history from Eastern College in St. Davids, Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA, where he studied from 1993 to 1996.
He received his Juris Doctor degree from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, where he studied from 1998 to 2000.
In 2001, he was admitted to practice law in Minnesota.
Eric is also a lecturer on various criminal topics including driving under the influence of a controlled substance and the manufacturing of methamphetamine.
He has also been a contributing author to the Minnesota DWI Deskbook, the most comprehensive DWI sourcebook for attorneys in Minnesota.
Eric’s experience includes successfully representing clients charged with all levels of crimes through negotiation, jury trial, and at the Court of Appeals. Eric’sexperience includes homicide, sex offenses, drug offenses, assaults, and hundreds of DWI and alcohol-related traffic offenses.
Eric has also represented individuals faced with civil commitment as a sexual psychopathic personality/sexually dangerous person.
