Elizabeth Fox Doerr, a 50 year old widow of a firefighter who was executed in his own driveway three years ago was charged with murder in his death on Thursday, the Evansville Police Department announced.
Elizabeth Fox Doerr, stands accused of murder and conspiracy to commit murder over the death of 41-year-old Evansville firefighter Robert Doerr, who was killed on his own property.
Charged alongside the widow is convicted murderer Larry Richmond Sr., 42, who is currently incarcerated on four federal weapons charges.
Robert Doerr, the slain firefighter was found dead in his driveway on Feb. 26, 2019, just after 7:00 p.m.
Police say he was shot at least three times as he was getting out of his truck after working a 12-hour shift, according to probable cause affidavits obtained by the Courier Press.
The Affair between Elizabeth Fox Doerr and her lover, Richmond
Fox-Doerr allegedly spoke on the phone with Richmond minutes before she dialed 911 on the day of her husband’s death and later deleted the call log, police said.
The wife confessed to deleting the call log because she knew Richmond “had been in trouble before” and feared the investigators would think she was having an affair with him, according to the affidavit.
Richmond allegedly admitted to the affair, his son Larry Richmond Jr. told police. He also said he witnessed his father and Fox-Doerr kissing in a car. Investigators also recovered a letter written by the victim addressed to his wife which detailed issues of her infidelity.
Richmond has long been a suspect in the case and reportedly told another inmate on multiple occasions that he had a romantic relationship with Fox-Doerr and had shot her husband dead.
An inmate who was locked up with Richmond told police that the suspect confessed to the murder in jail and also said he was in a relationship with Elizabeth Fox-Doerr, according to an affidavit obtained by WEHT.
