The Electoral Commission of Ghana has urged all candidates of the respective political parties to engage in decent campaigns ahead of the December 7th polls.
This, according to the EC will ensure that the country is free from violent elections.
Describing the role of the Electoral Commission in the upcoming elections, the Chairperson for the independent electoral body tasked for organising the national elections, Madam Jane Mensa told the press and other stakeholders that the responsibility of the EC is to ensure a smooth and peaceful election devoid of rigging and dishonesty. She however emphasized that the messages the political parties carry out during their campaigns may or may not help the EC to accomplish their task. She therefore called upon the political parties to refrain from indecency in their campaigns.
“We wish all the qualifying candidates the best of luck in their bid to ascend the high office of presidency. We urge you all to engage in a decent campaign – a campaign based on policies and programmes that will lead to the betterment of our society”, she said.
Meanwhile, a total of 5 candidates have been disqualified from running for president by the EC while another 12 have been approved to run as candidates.
