The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo has lifted the ban on operation of business activities by tourist sites, bars and restaurants and has ordered that they begin their business activities effective immediately.
In his latest address to the country late Sunday evening, he ordered operators of such businesses that they can begin their operations once they adhere to all safety procedures during these COVID 19 crisis.
Drinking spots, tourist sites reopened
The president placed an indefinite ban on the operations of tourist sites, bars, restaurants, beaches and night clubs in March after the country recorded its early figures of the COVID19. His directive was to in line with ensuring the control of the spread of the deadly virus.
In his late Sunday night speech, the president said in consultation with stakeholders, he believes it is now safe to open those places, excluding beaches and night clubs.
“in consultation with the Ghana Tourism Authority and health experts, I’m announcing the reopening of our nation’s tourist sites and attractions so they can begin to receive visitors. Open air drinking spots can now function. The management of these facilities are thus, to enforce hygiene and social distancing protocols. Beaches, pubs, cinemas and nightclubs, however remain closed till further notice”, he said.
