A 57-year-old Macungie man was killed Wednesday morning when his motorcycle struck a deer in Lehigh County, state police said.

The deceased was identified by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office as Donald Guldin, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:04 a.m. Wednesday.

He died from multiple blunt force trauma to the head and the cause was ruled accidental by the Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.

Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem said the accident happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday along Route 100 — near Windy Road — in Lowhill Township.

The collision shut down the northbound lanes of Route 100 around the crash scene for nearly three hours. Northbound traffic was diverted onto Route 100 south during the investigation, state police said. All lanes reopened by 8:12 a.m. Wednesday.

Also assisting was state police’s Troop M Forensic Services Unit, the Fogelsville Fire Department and Cetronia Emergency Medical Services. Wednesday’s accident remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

This is the second fatal accident within about 24 hours involving a motorcyclist and deer in Lehigh County.

Shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday, 64-year-old Frederick R. Brauchle III of Heidelberg Township was killed when his bike struck a deer in the 4800 block of Mountain Road in Washington Township, Lehigh County.

Brauchle was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from blunt force trauma to the head and the manner was ruled accidental by Buglio.
