On this week’s episode of The Delay Show hosted by producer, Deloris Frimpong-Manso, Ghana’s youngest DJ popularly known in and outside Ghana as DJ switch made her first appearance on the hit TV show.

DJ Switch introduced herself as Erica Ama Bra-Bulu Tandoh, outside showbiz and says she is the second child of her parents .

In giving a background to her rise to fame, Erica narrated that she participated in a District Cultural competition in Suaman Dadeso by presenting herself as a poet and submitting a poem to that effect. She was told that winning the competition would mean that she’d move to Accra and contest on an International level.

Erica said before her family moved to Accra and lived at Abeka with some relatives, she knew nothing about Talented Kidz but when advertisements for auditions of Talented Kidz Season 8 were circulating, she was encouraged to audition.

The initial art she thought she’d audition with was poetry. Her mother advised that she choose an art that would be unique; so one day after school closed, her mother sat with her on a motorbike and sought a DJ to help Erica with the art of DJ’ing. The DJ who helped usher Switch into DJ’ing is DJ Scratch; he trained her for five days before she auditioned for the show. Subsequently, DJ Fouad took over training Erica till the end of the show. She has also been trained by DJ Bone Tie.

At age eight(8), DJ Switch shot to fame when she auditioned for Season 8 of Tv3’s reality kids TV show, ”Talented Kidz”. Her confidence, talent and fun vibe stole the hearts of many, nationwide so it was no surprise when the then eight (8) year old contestant emerged winner of the show and walked away with a GH₵ 10,000 cash prize, a GHC 6,000 educational fund, some products and souvenirs from the show’s sponsors.

Asked how far she’s gone, where she’s gone and how she’s treated by colleagues from school, the now ten (10) year old DJ highlighted her first experience in an airplane, how confused she was when she had to board connecting flights to the U.S and how hungry she was after takeoff because her excitement to travel made her forget to eat.

Her talent has piqued the interest of the International audience and has since led her to DJ worldwide. In doing that, she has met France’s President, Emmanuel Macron, Bill and Melinda Gates and supermodel Naomi Campbell. She mentioned being given some form of “special” treatment from colleagues because they want to befriend her. The ten year old is in J.H.S one (J.H.S 1).

As montitored by ghlinks.com.gh , the young DJ debunked claims of her calling DJ Scratch a “village” DJ by saying that it’s not something she has said or will say.

DJ Switch also said that during her first International gig, she played “Waka Waka” by Shakira which she personally added to her playlist, in honour of Ghana. “Waka Waka” made major waves especially in Ghana during the 2010 FIFA World Cup partly because its “This time for Africa” catch phrase resonated with Ghanaians.

DJ Switch expressed her gratitude to God Almighty, her family, friends and fans. She hopes to become a gynecologist in future, to help women. Asked whether she’ll stop DJing after a while, she said she can’t stop DJ’ing; rather, she’ll pursue both careers.
