Naseeb Abdul Juma popularly known by his stage name as Diamond Platnumz or Diamond is a famous Tanzanian singer, songwriter, recording artiste, stage performer, model, entrepreneur, investor, dancer and a philanthropist. He was born on 2nd October 1989 in Tandale, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He is currently 28 years old.
He is born into a Muslim family. He is originally from Tandale, Tanzania in eastern part of Africa. Diamond grew up in the western part of Tandale where he was living with his mother at his grandmother’s house. His father was not on the picture as a result of unresolved conflict between his parents.
Life in Tandale was hard as his mother had no reliable source of income. Diamond, his mother and grandmother were forced to share a single room and rent out the remaining two rooms which were initially for Diamond and his mother in order for them to be able to pay the bills.
He attended Tandale Magharib Primary School and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 2002. While still in primary 5, Diamond showed interest in music. He spent his formative years imitating local and international artists and singing their songs at different occasions.
His mother bought for him albums from different artists and assisted him in writing lyrics for some songs so that he can easily sing them. His mother took him to different talent shows hoping he will get a chance to sing.
This was against some family members as they were of the view that music was a waste of time and can never be a career, instead they wanted her to encourage him to concentrate on his education. In 2003, Diamond Platnumz started his secondary school education. He managed to graduate in 2006 with a senior school certificate. After completing his secondary school his life and career as a musician began officially.
He has several hit songs including “Number One” which he featured Nigerian artiste Davido. He is best known for his hit song “Number One” a hit single that brought him to limelight. Diamond Platnumz is currently signed to WCB Wasafi record label.
Diamond has won awards at Channel O and the Hip hop Music Awards. In May 2012, he performed at the Big Brother Africa 7 eviction show. Diamond is considered influential among his fans, and is said to be the most loved and decorated East and Central African artist at the moment.
He is believed to be the highest selling Tanzanian artist of ringtones by mobile phone companies in 2013, as well as being among the artists earning the highest income in the African Great Lakes region’s music industry.
In 2010, he endorsed Tanzania’s dominant ruling party, the Cham Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and its presidential candidate, Jakaya Kikwete. In February 2018, he launched his new Wasafi TV and Radio in Tanzania.
In March 2018, he also launched his first album “A Boy from Tandale” at Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. Diamond is said to be the richest musician in East Africa”. He is also the first musician to own a TV and a Radio station in Africa. On 14th March 2018, Diamond released his debut studio album “A Boy from Tandale” with several hit singles banging on the airwaves, clubs, radio and television stations.
Diamond Platnumz in the cause of his career as an artist have been nominated for 28 awards and has won 22 awards both locally and internationally. In 2014, he won the award for Most Gifted Newcomer, Most Gifted East, Most Gifted Afro Pop and Most Gifted Video of the Year at the Channel O Music Video Awards.
In 2015, he won the award for East Africa Superhit at the Hip Hop Music Awards. In 2016, he won the award for African Video of the Year, Best African Male Video, East Africa Superhit, East Africa Best Video and Best African Combo Video at the Africa Music Video Awards and Hip hop Music Awards.
In 2017, he won the award for East Africa Best Video at the Hip Hop Music Awards and Africa Music Vanguard Award. On 3rd May 2014, Diamond Platnumz set a new record at the Tanzania Music Awards by winning 7 awards, including Best Male Writer, Best Male Artist, Best Song Writer and Best Male Entertainer of the Year.
The previous record was set by 20%, a recording artist who walked away with 5 awards at the 2011 Tanzania Music Awards where diamond left empty handed. Prior to accomplishments, Diamond held the record for winning 3 awards at the 2010 Tanzania Music Awards. Diamond Platnumz has the highest number of awards in East Africa.
Diamond Platnumz is currently the richest and most influential artiste in Tanzania with an estimated net worth of $6 million.
