Denzel Washington has threatened to break the back of any sleazy executive who mistreats or disrespects his daughter, Olivia.
The actress is following in her father’s footsteps and the Oscar winner hopes the #MeToo movement will keep her safe as directors and producers stop to consider how their words and actions affect actresses.
Asked if he thought that the industry has changed following the sexual harassment scandal, sparked by the 2017 exposes about producer Harvey Weinstein’s alleged bad behaviour, Denzel tells i newspaper, “I hope so. I think there are just more rules in place. Time will tell…”.
But The Equalizer star insists his daughter, who appeared in director Lee Daniels’ film The Butler, has always had a safeguard – her dad.
“I will break somebody’s back if they mess around with my daughter,” he added, stating, “Let that be the message to put out there. Their back will be broken”.
Meanwhile, Denzel’s son John David is winning over the critics with his portrayal of a real-life Detroit, Michigan police detective, who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan, in director Spike Lee’s acclaimed new movie BlacKkKlansman.
