The Montour County Coroner’s office announced they have identified the person killed in the deadly shooting in Northumberland County.
The Sunbury Police Department revealed that a shooting happened outside of the Northumberland County Courthouse around 12:01 p.m. Thursday.
Officers arrived on the scene and found a man with a single gunshot wound.
The Northumberland County District Attorney stated the incident happened during a criminal trial and the victim has died as a result of the shooting.
On Thursday, the Montour County Coroner’s Office identified the person killed in the shooting as Dayveon Creel from Sunbury.
Authorities say Creel was taken to Geisinger Medical Center Danville and passed away at 1:16 p.m. from the gunshot wound to the chest.
Officials say there is an autopsy scheduled for Thursday and that the manner of death is homicide.
The coroner’s office also said they are investigating the death along with multiple police departments.
Police could not say if a suspect has been identified or is in custody. Officials did not say if the shooting was related to any court proceedings happening Thursday.
The courthouse was closed Thursday and will remain closed Friday.
