US-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu is not happy with the conduct of some police officers and military officers in Ghana.
According to the singer, these officers have taken advantage of the lockdown in Ghana to abuse citizens.
President Akufo-Addo has ordered a lockdown due to coronavirus from March 30 till April 13 in some areas in Greater Accra and Ashanti Region.
The president stated that a few people including providers of essential services were exempted from the lockdown.
Some people who went out in some parts of Kasoa were punished by some military men for breaking the lockdown directives.
A number of videos have surfaced online showing the military and police intimidating and abusing people.
Sonnie Badu took to his Instagram page and expressed his anger at how the military and the police were treating civilians.
“I really want to urge the military and the police in Africa to exercise wisdom and patience. Let’s understand that this virus has taken everyone by storm so that means it’s not going to be an overnight change. Let’s not use this to bully and toss human beings around, but help them understand the seriousness of this matter … Also remember, there are mobile phones around that could make you trend in a bad way … And oh, pls practice social distancing amongst each other because you are not above the law and clearly this virus is not a respecter of uniform … question, what if that man you are holding has it?” he quizzed.
Meanwhile, government is expected to announce stricter rules to enforce the lockdown in some parts of Accra and the Ashanti Region.
